2014 World Championship of Online Poker to Guarantee $40 Million This September

Post  Admin on 2014-08-12, 02:45

PokerStars released its schedule for the 2014 World Championship of Online Poker last week. The world’s largest online poker tournament series will guarantee $40,000,000 over 66 events in September with buy-ins ranging from $109 to $10,300.

The $5,200 buy-in WCOOP Main Event will take place on Sunday, September 28, and will award $10,000,000 in cash prizes—25 percent more than PokerStars’ 2013 flagship series.

The promised overall guarantee of the three-week schedule of tournaments equals last year’s WCOOP, as do the total number of events.

One out of every six WCOOP events currently available in the PokerStars lobby will boast a prize pool of $1 million or greater—all of which are slated to begin either on Tuesdays or weekends.

There will be a wide variety of games included in the 2014 WCOOP: No Limit and Fixed Limit Texas Hold’em, Omaha, Omaha Hi/Lo, 7 Card Stud, Stud 8 or Better, 2-7 Triple Draw, Razz, Badugi, and a variety of mixed game formats.

WCOOP Statistics

Online tournament specialist Daniel “djk123” Kelly holds the record for most WCOOP wins with four. He is followed by PokerStars players “Donald” and “g0lfa,” who have won three events each over its 12-year history.

Last year, German players took home the largest amount of cash prizes in the series on a per-country basis with winnings of more than $8.5 million. Players from the Canada came in a close second almost $8.4 million.

However, Russian players had the most In The Money WCOOP finishes in 2013 with 2172 compared to Canada and Germany who had 2,098 and 1,806 respectively.

The 2014 PokerStars WCOOP will kick-off on Sunday, September 7, with a $109 buy-in $700,000 Guaranteed tournament which begins at 8:00am Eastern Time.
