Goals for 2012?
Think it was Poker Player magazine that included a list of "goals" that players might want to set for themselves in 2012.
Do people actually do that, or just see how things go?
It set me thinking about what I want to do poker-wise in 2012 and I started to make a list of things I'd like to achieve in no particular order.
So if I share mine, please add yours, or give it some thought - it's good when a plan comes together, as someone once said .....
I used to play more of the circuit events but lost a bit of focus over the last couple of years for various personal reasons so a big part of my goal is just getting back out there and taking part in more events, in more interesting venues. I've also only ever played in the UK, never gone to Vegas, so taking in a few new locations is a big objective too. Here we go.
1. Play in at least 4 UKIPTs
Yes, I know they have only announced four so far but there will be more. I've only played in one, at DTD, and really enjoyed it. Ripped up my table for 6 or 7 hours before it all went pear shaped and before I could get my chips back they broke my table and I ended up on the table of death where Dave Colclough had about a gazillion chips. Young scandie guy called my shove about ten minutes before the end of day one (didnt want to be going back with 14bb) and out I went.
2. Play in all possible Genting Poker Series
This is a new one and I have no idea how popular the tour will be but my guess is it will be huge. I'm snookered for the Star City Leg as I already have something on that weekend, but hope to at least play in Stoke, Fox Club, and Sheffield.
3. Play at least two GUKPTs.
I really hope Grosvenor manage to get this tour buzzing again because I have an irrational fondness for it as it provided my first little moment of mini-glory when I made a final table a million years ago. Came up against some young upstart kids that weekend, like James Akenhead and Sam Trickett - yeah, where are they now? - and spent several hours on the same table as the great Liam Flood, what an experience. Have played only seven main events, made day two twice, made day three once. Would like to improve those stats. Seem to do OK every third outing so hopefully my ninth event will turn out well.
4. Play in Ireland.
Everybody says what great craic it is in Ireland and I know this to be true from my days going over for the horse sales at Tattersalls. Would like to tick this one off my list of things to do (and having just binked a seat for UKIPT Galway will be able to do so, barring accidents).
5 Play in Vegas
Usually only make a half-hearted attempt to qualify for the WSOP but aim to be more business-like about it next year and try to get sorted early. If I fail to make the Main Event I would like to at least get over there and play in some other tournaments.
6 Play in Eastern Europe
Early last year Poker Encore were pushing satellites for deepstack events in Slovenia, which looked good, so hopefully they will do so again. Latvia is also a destination which hosts legs of many poker tours. Just fancy taking a look.
7 Play in a Sunshine Location
I dunno, Malta, Marrakesh, wherever, there are usually loads of satellites running for events in slightly more exotic locations than the West Midlands.
8 At least double the number of my Hendon Mob entries. Yeah, of course, I'd settle for a few min cashes at DTD

9 Profit. Did I mention making a profit? No point otherwise!

Re: Goals for 2012?
Seems like a fun game. I hope you won`t mind if I pinch some of your ideas.
1. At least double the number of my Hendon Mob entries.
2. Play an overseas tourney. (Haven`t played anything outside England yet.)
3. Play a major (ie. WPT, EPT or WSOP) tourney.
4. Win a Sunday Major (online). ie. one of the Sunday tournaments with a prize pool of $100k or more. I have had five final tables in such games but no outright wins. So, it`s about time.
5. Make $25k profit in the year online (in addition to live profits). The last couple of years, my goal has been $12k, but I achieved that easily this year. Time to be more ambitious.

Negreanu outlines new year goals
Wednesday, 11 January 2012
For most of us, new year resolutions mean less booze, more exercise and no watching the TV or fiddling on Facebook when multitabling. Daniel Negreanu has outlined his goals for 2012 and it's fair to say that they're a bit more ambitious.
Kid Poker's list for 2012 is:
1. $1 million in tournament earnings in 2012
2. Regain the top spot on all four all-time money earners list in 2012
3. Regain the #1 spot on the WPT all-time money list
4. Win a WSOP Bracelet
5. One Major Tour Win outside the WSOP
6. Move into 11th place on the WSOP All-Time Cash List
7. Move into 31st on the WSOP All-Time Money List
8. Have a better year than Jason Mercier
9. Crack the top 10 of both the Card Player of the Year and Bluff Player of the Year List
10. Follow my personal tournament rules religiously - That means no drinking or socializing the night before a tournament.
After hitting one of 8 goals in 2010 and 3.5 of 10 last year, Negreanu is on target to hit around half this year. If he does he'll have enjoyed a truly spectacular year.
Think I'll just go with Daniel's list if thats OK.

Re: Goals for 2012?
Dave are you planning to be single because if you achieve all of that you may end up that way.
Only one goal for me. Stop over playing AK, not working yet though.

Well, she's coming to Galway with me. That could be "interesting".
