BCPC Team Event at Broadway Casino SATURDAY APRIL 28TH

on 2018-01-19, 18:24
The Black Country Poker Club Annual Team Championships will this year take place on SATURDAY APRIL 28TH and in their 10th year as a Club, for the first time they will be playing the event in a Casino.

BROADWAY CASINO in Birmingham will be hosting the event.in 2018, although the format of previous years remains the same.

The entry fee this year will be £220 per team, which includes £20 towards the hiring of the casino. The BCPC will pay the rest.

There will be prizes for the teams finishing 1st and 2nd on the day, with the winners also receiving the coveted BCPC Silver Salver to keep for one year. There will also be prizes for each individual table winner and also the top two overall points scorers over the three games.

Each game will feature a 5000 starting stack on a 20-minute clock and the opening game kicks off at 1pm with the last game expected to finish in the early hours of Sunday morning. Each game normally lasts 3 1/2 - 4 hours.

There will be a food break set for around 6-7pm following the first game. This food is purely optional and you will be offered the opportunity to pre-order nearer to the date of the event.from the menu available at the casino.

All games will be self-dealt and players drawn in seats 1 and 6 will be the designated dealers for alternate levels, unless someone decides to deal throughout.

The casino will be open from noon on the day and while you do not need to join, you WILL need to register before you gain entry and have your photo taken so please arrive in plenty of time to complete this process. If you look under 25, you will need to bring photo ID or risk being refused entry.

IF FFORUM MEMBERS WOULD LIKE TO TAKE PART IN THIS EVENT I CAN REGISTER OUR INTEREST BUT PLEASE LET ME KNOW ASAP.

This event takes a massive amount of organisation behind the scenes and the earlier Brian knows about team numbers, the smoother everthing runs.

All payments must be made by SUNDAY APRIL 15TH.

I will play if needed to make up a team, Dave, but I have no problem in standing aside if there are sufficient others.  It`s my birthday that weekend and the wife will probably prefer me to take part in some sort of family gathering.

It would be a shame if we don`t participate, I think.  We narrowly missed out last year and certainly have the potential to win it.  Also, the Broadway will be a more pleasant venue than previously.

Not necessarily, Dave.  It could well be that some of our regular team haven`t seen the thread.  I`m going to be at Hill Street for the 25/25 tomorrow and will have a chat with any of the guys I see there.

Mike is usually keen to play in anything that`s not in a Grosvenor so that he, as a Grosvenor employee, can take part.

How about texting people like (for example) DaveG, Wurzel, Jinx, Deadly, Mike ?  I probably have some of their phone numbers, but it`ll come better from you as gaffer.

I was unaware of this till this morning. Broadway is a big plus but self deal a minus. How many players needed for a team?

I would probably be able to play if we had a team and maybe be able to round up some others if needed.

If it`s the same as last year, it`s teams of four.

I didn`t personally deal a single card last year.  There were always enough volunteers at each table, and they were reasonably competent.  But, of course, that`s not gauranteed.

I talked to Mr.Glonk at Hill Street.  He would be happy to play but is not sure about his availability.  His services have also been sought by another team and they have prior call on him, should they succeed in putting an entry together.

I'll be up for it then, if we get a team accepted. We could do with winning it so we get our name noticed for next years APAT team event.

Thought it was five to a team? Last year it was teams of 5 and consisting of 3 STT games. Will check with Brian ........

Deadly has said he is in, so interested parties appear to be:

Fluence
Hmrcustoms
Deadlyscfc
Ascot
need one other assuming Panfried is getting a birthday treat somewhere .....

Anyone else interested?

Hi All,
Not playing many live tournaments this last year, so, following my dismal performance in previous BCPC tournie, I thought that I would let others have first go at getting a team together but if I'm needed I'm always willing to come along.

As a stalwart of the team event in the past, I am sure everyone would be glad to have you back on board Graham. Given the format of this event I imagine it is less likely that you will run into a team mate in a key pot!! Can I put you down as playing?

I have advised BCPC that we WILL be putting a team in. Brian seems very keen to get the money in early, but I shall hold off as long as is reasonable - it's not till the end of April, after all. It'll be £44 a player and when everyone has given firm commitments I will communicate payment arrangements.

Graham has been in touch and confirmed he is up for this so the lineup will now be

Wurzel
Fluence
Hmrcustoms
Deadlyscfc
Ascot

If nobody else is desperate to claim a place then that would appear to be our lineup.

Re: BCPC Team Event at Broadway Casino SATURDAY APRIL 28TH

Brian is now hassling teams to get the money in. Although it is some time away, Broadway have only guaranteed him 12 tables (so 24 teams) and 26 teams have so far registered an interest. So he is adopting a first come first served approach and unless Broadway can allocate more tables, two teams will lose out. I think I trust Brian to be sitting with £5000+ without running away to the Caribbean!!

As a result I aim to send him the money before the weekend, so if any of our team think they wont be able to make it please say so now.

I will pm the players who have volunteered to play with my bank details, and will need £44 of each of you as soon as you can please.

I have gone ahead and paid for the team just to ensure our place is guaranteed. I also asked Brian not to invest the buy-ins in Bitcoin over the next two and a half months, but he's a good lad and has been trusted with the BCPC finances over many years Very Happy

You should have a pm in your inbox with my bank details - have received Darren's money so let me know on this thread when you have sent yours.

Good luck us!

Sorry for the delayed reply Jon, I have been in Spain for the last week (hence the bulk upload of schedules before I went!).

Team members are now all paid up, but happy to start a reserve list as something may come up for any of us between now and the 28th April :

Deadlyscfc - PAID
Fluence - PAID
Wurzel - PAID
Hmrcustoms - PAID
Ascot - PAID

1st Reserve: Tandyman

Have this morning contacted Mr Tandy to put him on standby as our volunteer reserve, because I may have to fly to spain at short notice due to my partner's father being close to death's door out there. Will make the call within a day or two, but if Jonathan cant make it we may be looking for a last minute supersub ........ fingers crossed. Hope for the best, plan for the worst. Sad

Dave, priority to Jon, of course, but I can be available to play if needed in an emergency.

I have learned by means of subtle and devious enquiries that our family`s get-together (supposed to be a surprise to me, lol) will actually be on the 29th.

Thanks Mike - Jon has already advised me that he cannot make it due to another commitment. I still don't know what is going on with the old fella in Spain, but will make a judgement call by Wednesday evening at the latest on whether I will need to fly out, so if you could step in to my place at the Broadway you would certainly be warmly welcomed by the team.

I'm reeling with all these deaths lately - not just celebrities - I was already supposed to be attending an ashes-scattering this coming Sunday and today learned that a work colleague has passed away aged only 48. Make every day count.

I will stand in for you if needed, mate.  But, in the circumstances, I certainly hope you will be able to play.

I know what you mean.  It`s tough to see so many friends, colleagues, and family members pass on.  I have no remaining close relatives older than me, though I don`t think of myself as old.  If it`s true that the good die young, maybe we are the bad guys.  Shocked

Well the old fella is still hanging on, but I have had to book a flight to Spain which departs tomorrow, so will sadly be unable to play this event.

I am grateful to panfried for agreeing to step in at short notice and as one of our stronger players we are certainly fortunate to have him available. So this weekend the role of "me" will be played by Mike, subject to his final confirmation.

Mike, I will text you in case you dont read this, and will confirm the swap to Brian at BCPC.

Message received, Dave.  I will be there.  Am I right in thinking it`s 1pm Saturday at Broadway in my MPF shirt ?

I will send you the £44.  Are you still using the same bank account (last 3 digits 054) ?

Thanks again Mike - now go win it! Yes it's 1pm start and shirts on please. If someone can take a group photo of you would be nice to see it posted.

And yes the 054 account is still operational - thanks, and good luck.

Full details from the BCPC Facebook Page:

On the day of the tournament, entry can be gained to the casino from noon onwards. Everyone will be photographed upon entry and if you are lucky enough to look under 21, you may be asked for photo ID. Please allow time for this as the tournament will kick off at 1pm prompt, with an introduction on the days events at about 12.50.

Also, parking is free and is ticketless. You need to get your reg number verified as you leave the building. But be warned....if you verify your number and then go back to a hotel and collect your car the following day, you will be charged the 24-hour rate!

The entry fee this year will be £220 per team of 5, which includes £20 towards the hiring of the casino. The BCPC will pay the rest..

[NOW DESIGNATED VOLUNTEER DEALERS IN SEAT 1 FOR ALL GAMES]

The casino will be open from noon on the day and while you do not need to join, you WILL need to register before you gain entry and have your photo taken so please arrive in plenty of time to complete this process. If you look under 25, you will need to bring photo ID or risk being refused entry.

Hi Boss,

Thought i would be the cheeky one (as the others haven't got the balls LOL ). We think this is the first cash by the forum team and members did notice the captain was not in attendance.

It has been suggested for future events you are our 3rd reserve.

Please take the above in the manure of a nice little piss take.
We look forward in representing the forum along with yourself in some future fixtures, we hope everything went all ok abroad.

Kind regards
Andy (7 pointer towards the 2nd place finish.

Ah well what goes around comes around Andy! From what I remember (and what you just told me on the phone, more to the point) you had to prop up the the team at the last BCPC event so your measly 7 points this time has to be seen in context, there is a bigger picture. Obviously.

By the way last year was another event I was unable to attend so what went wrong then? Happy to be 3rd reserve anytime, as long as we get a team in.

I think Graham was the last man standing at the last APAT Team event in Luton, and I'm pretty sure I lasted longest at Stoke (a long time ago) so hopefully APAT will take note of this £££££££ STERLING £££££££ performance and ensure that MPF assume their rightful place at next years APAT Team event - instead of catering for manufactured so-called "teams" full of people who actually support APAT all year round. I mean what's that all about? Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

BCPC BROADWAY APRIL 28TH

on 2018-05-01, 00:10
Hi Dave,
BCPC
The MPF team did you proud with a great 2nd/26. I think we were the smartest team there (and that's not just our shirts !).

My first time at Broadway and a nice atmosphere overall. Organisation was fine but each leg and the breaks did drag on (about 5 hours each). Not sure who won as the tannoy system used was abysmal but it could/should have been us !

It was a good, if somewhat long day. We were always in the top 6 teams after each completed leg and had a flying start when Dave G and I managed to win our respective tables. I did a "grind for England" on my first leg coming back from an 8:1 deficit HU to win after an hour and 40 mins titanic battle (our table got to HU first and finished virtually last of all).

The battle was 'won and lost' on the last leg. Unfortunately, one of the teams that couldn't win anything after Leg 2 decided on a rather inconsiderate plan for Leg 3 - everyone of them was going to go 'all-in' on every hand from the start. Both Dave and I had one of these nutters on our tables and it completely unbalanced things - the nutters got lucky, knocked some out, then 'gave' their chips away, so those of us like the MPF team fighting for points faced an uphill battle from there on.

Dave and I went out early on Leg 3 because of this but Mike, Darren and Andy all knuckled down and came through to finish 2nd on each of their tables, resulting in us making 2nd overall - a great allround team performance.

A few photos have been taken - all finished about 2am - but as I'm not on social media can't tell you much more.
Could anyone who has team photos please post/distribute, thx.

Very nice report, Graham.

It was a long day but a good one.  Broadway is a pleasant venue.  It`s a shame it no longer offers tournaments.
