There are limited seats left!

Nottingham Circus, Stoke Circus, Blackpool Circus, and Manchester Circus have all been issued with 5 seats max, registration will be open now on these on a first come first served basis!

I apologise now to anyone that wishes to play and does not manage to get in or registration is not available at your local Circus. If you turn up on the 18th to Genting Riverlights I expect the first 20 alternates will get in, as alternates will be allowed for the first 4 levels, again on a first come first served basis.

Cheers

The reason these casinos were chosen are due to location and interest shown

So none for star city - unlucky panfried. If you are playing Stoke on Sunday you could try your luck then. You never know.

Yes. Seems highly eccentric that there is a ticket allocation for Manchester and for Blackpool, both much further away, but none for Birmingham. There is some suggestion, in the other place where we have been discussing this, that it could be a muddle and may yet be corrected.

I'm sure it will be resolved. Ricky, any news?

Dont imagine getting players from far-flung quarters (who are obviously attracted by the added money) will satisfy the objective of showing off the place to customers who will potentially return to Derby on a regular basis. Hey ho.

Apparently the reason Manchester and Blackpool were targeted is because of the interest shown, they had been asking for seats for weeks yet not one phone call from Star City?

Manchester sold their allocated seats within an hour and Blackpool sold 4 out of 5 within 30 minutes. The strange one is Nottingham they had 5 seats but not sold one, I have nicked 2 off Notts because all of a sudden the local Derby players were keen :/

My Genting username affords me a degree of anonymity.

Just checked, I'm still there. Smile

I have been in the Star City club twice recently, but it never occurred to me to waste anyone`s time asking for tickets for this event. I had understood, based on discussions on this and other forums, that there were none available.

Woot ! I am playing in the tourney, thanks to Ricky`s help. Smile

After so much effort to get in, I will doubtless hit a disastrous cooler and be out during level one now. That`s usually how these things work. Very Happy

I played in the tourney on Friday as planned. Very nice club - good food, good coffee, good ambience.

Possibly the tables are a shade too close together in the cardroom, so that the valets, and any player wanting to stretch his legs during play, struggle a bit to get through when full to capacity, as it was on Friday. Good place though, and I would happily play there again.

I had one of those dull tournaments during which I had few decent cards and no interesting decisions. Won a few small pots and remained roughly around starting stack until four hours in. With the blinds getting threatening, I pushed KQs which failed to improve against A2o.

Re: Casino Details

My own visit was unspectacular. Never got above starting stack and only notable hand was QQ which got a call from KJ and a K on the turn ensured minimum damage. More hurtful was when I got dealt A7 in the small blind at 50/100, all fold to me and perhaps foolishly I limped in only for the Big Blind to raise it up to 500. Seeing this as a fairly standard "you cant call this" load of bollox, I made the call and the flop was an entertaining AQx - all spades. I didnt want to check my cards but knew I had a black 7, so led out for 600 and the BB flat called. Mmmm. I really felt he had raised with a bag of spanners, so when the turn came a 7, I happily led out again for 1200 with two pair and (I hoped) the 7 of spades as backup. He flatted again. The river card was a 4th spade and I fired the third barrel. He dwelt for an age but my look of unconcern clearly in the end did nothing to dissuade him from making the call, with AQ off suit for a better two pair than mine, and not a spade to be seen in his hand. Then I discovered that my 7 was a club. FFS. A couple of players at the table were shaking their heads and looking rather amazed by his call on the river, but the sympathy vote was no good and I was nursing a short stack. With about 3700 left and me in the BB an oriental lad raised it up to 650 from UTG + 2. It folded to me and I found a pair of sixes in the hole. After a short moment of deliberation I reraised him allin, happy to take the pot there but not averse to a flip as I'm sure I'm ahead. I was, but he made the call with AQ and spiked his Ace obviously.

After a bit of a grind on cash, and nearing the end of the night, I finished up losing a reasonable sized pot when a young lad on tilt after his fourth reload shoved it all in from UTG and I'm in late pos with pocket 10s. I shove to isolate and the worst player at the table in the SB says he has to call. Not too worried about that statement until he turns over KK. Hey ho.

Overall my impressions of the casino were good but it was all smaller than I expected. The cardroom was probably about the same size as Walsall's and was cramped with ten tables. Four screens (should have kept Panfried happy!!!) but no sign of the standard green Cardroom Magic display - the screen was basically grey and purple and speaking to some guys on the smoking balcony who were responsible for it I learned that they worked for a division of Playtech, so they will probably be rolling it out to other Genting venues I imagine. I have to say it wasnt universally loved by those I spoke to.

The dealers were a mix of new trainees and refugees from Dusk Till Dawn, one or two of whom didnt have much good to say about DTD and their minimum wage policy for working anti-social hours. So they appear to like Genting as an employer so far. The cardroom seemed to be well run with Ricky and Bunny (ex-DTD) very able guys, as we know.

After my spell on cash I went back to the cardroom (the cash table was outside in a corner of the main room) to see the final table bubble play out. I have to say, after reading Fluence's blog recently about the antics of drunken players at the APAT event in Luton, I was disappointed to see (and hear) some of the very same group of players in a well-refreshed state, shall we say. With 12 left and 11 paid, the chants of "Dont fold the button" and other football-style "railing" to the one remaining player from that group seemed rather out of place and I am surprised they were allowed to continue. The guy they were railing was so "refreshed" he was almost struggling to pick up his cards. Dont get me wrong, I know some of these guys, and sober they are fine, but I am surprised they weren't quietened down. A few dirty looks from Mad Marty was not having any effect.

The final table occurred when there was an all in on each table at the same time (not a good plan really) and when two players departed at the same time they split the 11th prize of £240. Surprised the player on the other table couldnt find a fold when he heard the first all in. Cost him £120.

Went back the following night Saturday for their official opening night (the third opening night by my reckoning). Had intended to go for a meal with the girlfriend as it was only a half hour drive from hers, and there was some entertainment on. Shouldnt have bothered really, couldnt get a table in the restaurant but had a very nice meal elsewhere, then later I thought the entertainment was pretty poor - despite the shrieking delight of the female "fans" in attendance, along with the people who won the draw to be VIP guests (and were having champagne poured down their necks all night). The area set aside for the entertainment had very few tables and chairs and the sound system wasnt up to the job, it just sounded mushy and it was hard to hear what they were actually singing, so I wasnt that impressed by the Overtones set. But judging by the comments on Facebook some people clearly thought it was a good gig.

Parking was available in the adjacent multi-storey. Dont know what the ongoing policy will be regarding parking charges - on Friday they validated my parking ticket no bother and off I went. On Saturday when I went to the cash desk to get my ticket validated the General Manager herself was behind the desk - and she charged me £1.70 to get my ticket done, same as if I had gone to the machine in the car park. When I mentioned that it had been free the night before, all I got was "Well we're charging £1.70". Dont give a sh1te about £1.70 but it seemed rather petty.
