APAT Team Championships - Blackpool Feb 3-4 2018

on 2017-09-28, 14:53
Well it's that time again when APAT invite team entries for the UK Team Championship, this Season to be played at the Grosvenor Casino, Blackpool over the weekend of Friday 2nd February 2018.

I have already applied for a place for a team from MPF again, so please reply to this thread if you think you would like to be on the team to represent the site. Since the event this time is a bit too close to my daughter's wedding for comfort, it's unlikely that I will be able to attend this time, but I am delighted to announce that David Griffiths (aka Fluence), a long standing APAT supporter and occasional winner, has already agreed to step in as captain for this event, if we get a place.

The full schedule of events as follows (all events include £7 reg fee) :

Feb 2, Fri 18:00 PLO £40
Feb 2, Fri 20:00 NLHE £40

Feb 3, Sat 14:30 Main Event: UK Team Championship (NLHE) Day 1 £82
Feb 3, Sat 20:00 NLHE £40

Feb 4, Sun 12:00 Main Event: UK Team Championship (NLHE) Day 2
Feb 4, Sun 13:00 Mix Max £40
Feb 4, Sun 16:00 PLO8 £40

ALL Side Events are open to any poker player, whether playing in the UK Team Championship or not.

Teams with 8 players each will compete for both a team and an individual prize pool in the UK Team Championship, which will be run as an MTT with a buyin of £75+£7 per player.

Entry is therefore £82 per player and this will be required to be paid via an Online Holding Tank by INDIVIDUALS - co-ordinated between myself and all Team Captains - each team member will therefore need to have a Grosvenor Poker online account to enable them to register online to play in the UK Team Championship.

The total prizepool of £75 per player will be paid out on a 50/50 basis to the top 3 teams and the top 18 (tbc) individual players from the MTT.

The top 120 (tbc) players in the MTT will score points for their team with 1st = 120 pts down to 120th = 1 pt.

Teams are to wear their own matching colour team shirts for both days of the event.

I'd rather be a long standing winner and occasional supporter, but honoured to captain if we get a spot and you can't make it Dave.

Hi,
Competition just for 'team allocation' looks fiercer this year than ever before so I hope the MPF gets a spot and the team does well. I would (being the thrifty type and hoping I made the team) normally have booked a room early (as in the previous May) and be all eager to go but last year's "poker exit" experience has left a very bad taste in my mouth.

Shame as I'd recruited some really good players today at Coventry. We'd have had a great chance. Always next year I suppose.

Do we know if taking part in the online qualifier would have helped?

Something to think about for next year maybe, guessing they will do it again.

Well we have never played online before and got one, but it certainly would have shown willing. I'm happy to give it a go next year.

They have to offer a few new ones a go each year so I guess its just our turn to miss out.

With well over 2,000 members in our FB group we can certainly help promote their brand and many of us on here have supported their normal events over the years so that has always been in our favour. As opposed to some teams that are basically a collection of a dozen or so people who play down their local pub together once a month.

It's slightly ironic that they would not allow Mike Swann to play for us in Grosvenor venues in the past but Grosvenor has 2 whole teams in this year.

I have won 9 Player of the Year points so far this season and if I do well at Reading (early Dec) then I will try and get on another team as a reserve because I'll be in with a chance of POY.

Did they do the  online qualifier before? I'm scratching my head to remember.

off to look at Reading event. Love a poker road trip but December can be hard.

I do think having faces playing other events helps, although I'm not sure what is in the application process.

I think a couple of teams get entry as a result of the online comp so I am guessing they want to make every effort to drive a bit of traffic to their online sponsor. It does seem odd to put two Grosvenor teams into the mix -  I can see why they might want to promote a Blackpool "locals" team to do a bit of promotion but if it is Grosvenor staff and pros then it's not so obvious why they would do that.

Can quite understand if they want to ensure that people who support all the other events get a spot, rather than the once-a-year mob, but it has led to some strange teams getting in - for example, "GNF Alumni" are previous winners but the Gambling Network Forum hasn't existed for quite some time so maybe they should find themselves a new team name.

It seems that while the event was once dominated by established forums, many of which have fallen by the wayside, it is now dominated by home game groups and the like which might well serve the Apat regulars somewhat better.
