No More Genting Online

Post  Panfried on 2016-03-10, 17:49

I received this email:

"We regret to inform you that, on 31st March 2016, Genting Poker Online will be closing down. Your gaming account will remain active for the use of Genting Casino and Sportsbook products.
The Gentingpoker.com client will still be accessible to withdraw any remaining funds until 31st March. After the closure of the poker client, you can continue to access your account and withdraw funds via Gentingcasino.com
Any tokens or reward points can be exchanged for cash. Please contact our customer services team to arrange this. You have until the expiry date of the token or reward points to redeem these.
The closure of our online poker room will have no impact on any live poker rooms. The live poker offering at all Genting Clubs and Casinos remains unchanged.
The ever-popular Genting Poker Series will also continue throughout the UK. Check the website for up to date information on this at https://www.gentingcasino.com/poker/genting-poker-series/. The closure of Online Poker will mean that Online Day 1A and online satellites will cease.
Additional information can be found in our closure FAQ’s here
Kind regards,
The Genting Poker Team"

That seems a very backward step.  Surely no online qualifiers will lead to the decline and perhaps the ultimate collapse of the GPS ?

Even worse for Stoke as they never run any in house Satellites and relied on other Casinos and on line Sats.I spoke to one of the Cardroom Staff last week to ask if they were doing any Sats for the Gps Mini. The reply was what si the GPS Mini and when is it.Say no more

Suggested a £22 sit and go at Genting Stoke Last night for the mini GPs only 2 out of 70 runners responded. So unless loads pay on the day the interest seems nil presently. The Saturday comp took its best for a long time at £2500.So this seems the level they are at.
Had same problem at Grosvenor for the Easter Beast. There is an apathy in the area for qualifiers and Sats, and i worry that Grosvenor may not match the 3k it took for the xmas cracker.

The online closure is very short-sighted - unless they want to kill off the poker tour.

It seems unlikely that they would partner with another site to run online satellites if they don't want to carry the cost of running their own skin, but a deal like that might be their best option if they want to save the tour.

Star City seem to be good at driving player traffic to tour events but I don't know how well others do. I'd hazard a guess that if some other venues started deducting GPS seats from the prize pools, local players would walk away.

At the end of the day, it's a £400 tour with £200 legs, so isn't going to attract that much media attention for Genting. Tom Dwan and Daniel Negreanu wont be flying in .....
